Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 large egg yolks
- 3 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 10 ounces chocolate chips, milk or semi-sweet, your choice!
- flaked salt, for topping
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Heat a 12-inch oven-safe skillet over low heat for about 5 minutes, then add the butter and let it melt completely. Mix in both sugars using a wooden spoon and turn off the heat.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the egg and egg yolks together, then add to the skillet mixture, stirring quickly to avoid cooking the eggs. Incorporate the vanilla extract as well.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined; the mixture will be thick. Wipe excess flour from the sides or top with a damp paper towel if needed.
- Gently fold in the chocolate chips, then bake the skillet cookie for 20 to 25 minutes until mostly set in the center. Sprinkle with flaked sea salt before serving.
- Serve warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Notes
For the best results, use a cast iron skillet to achieve that perfect crispy edge and chewy center.
Feel free to mix different types of chocolate chips for a more complex flavor.
