Description

This Strawberry Cream Cheese Danish features a flaky puff pastry filled with creamy cheese and sweet strawberry jam, making it a perfect treat for breakfast or brunch. It’s easy to prepare and sure to impress your guests with its delightful flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz. package cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 17.3 oz. box puff pastry dough, (2 sheets), thawed but refrigerated
  • ½ cup strawberry jam, other flavors also work
  • 1 tsp orange or lemon zest, (optional)
  • 1 tbsp milk, any type works
  • 1 tbsp turbinado sugar, or use granulated sugar
  • 1½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375℉ and line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar together until smooth using a hand electric mixer or stand mixer, about 1 minute.
  3. Unfold the puff pastry sheets and lay them out on the baking sheet. Keep the middle section intact for the filling and create slits on the outer sections.
  4. Cut 1-inch strips on both sides of the pastry sheet, leaving the middle section connected at the fold.
  5. Spread the cream cheese filling evenly over the center section of both pastry sheets.
  6. Mix the strawberry jam with orange or lemon zest (if using) and spread it over the cream cheese filling, using about ¼ cup for each pastry.
  7. Fold the top slits of each pastry over the filling in a crossing pattern, forming a braid with all slits.
  8. Brush the top of the Danish with milk to coat each braid strand.
  9. Sprinkle turbinado sugar over the top.
  10. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  11. Cool for 15 minutes before glazing.
  12. To prepare the glaze, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until the desired consistency is reached.
  13. Pour the glaze over the cooled Danish, slice, and serve.

Notes

Feel free to experiment with different flavors of jam.
Ensure the cream cheese is well-softened for easy mixing.
