Description

These Whole Wheat Cinnamon Rolls feature a delightful flavor thanks to freshly milled flour, cinnamon, and a sweet cream cheese filling, making them perfect for any cozy gathering.

  • 3 ¼ cups hard white whole wheat flour, 455 grams
  • ¼ cup sugar, 48 grams
  • ½ teaspoon salt, 3 grams
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast, 9 grams
  • 1 cup milk, 244 grams
  • 4 tablespoons butter, 57 grams, melted
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup softened butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 6 ounces cream cheese
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup honey
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast.
  2. In another bowl, mix the warm milk, melted butter, and egg until well combined.
  3. Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and knead until a smooth dough forms.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rise for about an hour.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread the softened butter, and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Spread the cream cheese evenly over the mixture, then roll up the dough tightly to form a log.
  7. Slice the log into 12 equal rolls and place them in a greased baking dish.
  8. Let the rolls rise for another 30 minutes before baking in a preheated oven.
  9. Bake until golden brown and drizzle with a mixture of heavy cream, honey, and vanilla extract before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use more cinnamon in the filling.
