- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tsp milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- ground cinnamon
- Pinch of nutmeg
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine all purpose flour, light brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt. Mix well and break up any lumps.
- In a small bowl, mix melted unsalted butter and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture over the dry ingredients and toss until crumbs form. Refrigerate for later use.
- Preheat your oven and prepare a baking pan as indicated in your preferred method.
- In another bowl, combine chopped gala apples, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg. Stir to coat the apples well.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat room temperature unsalted butter and granulated sugar until creamy. Add large eggs one at a time and mix well after each addition.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix this into the butter mixture.
- Add sour cream, milk, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth, ensuring there are no lumps in the batter.
- Fold in the prepared apples until evenly distributed in the batter.
- Transfer the batter to the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly. Top with crumb mixture from the refrigerator.
- Bake according to your oven’s instructions until golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
