Description

These Apple Turnovers with Puff Pastry are a delightful treat filled with tender, caramelized apples, making them perfect for a quick dessert or a comforting snack. Enjoy the flaky, golden crust that pairs beautifully with the sweet apple filling, making everyone crave for more!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (2 sheets) puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 3 medium apples, peeled, cored & diced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1 egg + 1 tbsp water
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1–2 tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and thaw the puff pastry according to package instructions.
  2. Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the diced apples and cook, stirring occasionally until softened.
  3. Lower the heat and stir in brown sugar and cinnamon. Simmer for 3 minutes until apples are soft and caramelized, then remove from heat and let cool.
  4. Lightly dust the counter with flour. Roll one sheet of the thawed puff pastry into an 11-inch square and cut into 4 equal squares.
  5. Place cooled apple mixture over half of each square, leaving a 1/2-inch border.
  6. Whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash. Brush the edges of each pastry square with the egg wash to seal, then crimp the edges with a fork.
  7. Repeat the previous steps with the second sheet of puff pastry.
  8. Transfer the turnovers to a parchment-lined baking sheet, ensuring they are at least 1 inch apart. Cut 2-3 small slits on top of each turnover to allow steam to escape.
  9. Brush the tops with the egg wash and bake for 20-22 minutes or until they are golden brown and puffed.
  10. To prepare the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar and milk until the desired consistency is reached. Drizzle the glaze over the baked turnovers.

Notes

Ensure the puff pastry is fully thawed before rolling out for best results.
Feel free to customize the apple filling with additional spices or nuts if desired.
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
