Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups water, luke warm
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 5½–6 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 large apples, gala, honeycrisp, granny smith, or another tart and sweet variety
- 1/3 cup butter, melted, or very soft
- 2/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/2 cup karo syrup
- 1/2 15-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
Instructions
- In a stand mixer, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir well and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until bubbly.
- Add melted butter, eggs, salt, and 2 cups of flour. Mix on low with a bread hook for 2 minutes until well-mixed.
- Incorporate an additional 3½ cups of flour, stirring on low. You may need to add up to 1/2 cup more until the dough pulls away from the bowl. Knead on low for 3 more minutes.
- Turn off the mixer, cover the bowl with a kitchen towel, and let the dough rest in a warm area for about 30 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.
- Once doubled, turn the dough onto a floured surface and shape it into a small rectangle. Roll it out to approximately a 24" x 12" rectangle, about 1/2" thick.
Notes
For best results, ensure the water is warm but not boiling to activate the yeast effectively.
Feel free to customize the types of apples used based on your preference for sweetness or tartness.
The rolls are even more delicious when served warm with a drizzle of caramel sauce.
