Description
This Crockpot Apple Butter is a delightful treat made with fresh apples, sugar, and spices. With its easy prep and rich flavor, it’s perfect for spreading on toast or using in desserts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 lb (1400g) apples (fuji, gala, honeycrisp, red delicious or similar)
- ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
- ½ cup (100g) packed brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Slice and core the apples, optionally peeling them, and chop into small chunks.
- Place the chopped apples in a 7qt slow cooker. Add both sugars and cinnamon, then mix well.
- Cover and cook on high for 3-5 hours, stirring after 2 hours until apples are translucent, about 4 hours in a slow cooker.
- Blend the cooked apples and liquid to a smooth sauce using a hand blender or regular blender (in batches if needed).
- Once blended, return the apple mixture to the slow cooker and cook on high with the lid cracked for 30 minutes to an hour, until desired thickness is reached.
- Stir in salt and vanilla, then let cool before transferring to jars or freezer containers. Canning is optional; without canning, the apple butter lasts about 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
Notes
You can peel the apples if you prefer a smoother texture.
Adjust the sugar according to your taste and the tartness of the apples.
Keep a close eye on the mixture as it cooks to achieve your desired richness and thickness.
