Description

Crockpot Sloppy Joes deliver incredible flavor with minimal effort, combining lean beef, zesty ketchup, and spices for a delicious comfort food that’s perfect for quick dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 small onion finely diced
  • 1 green bell pepper finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 ½ cups ketchup
  • 8 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ¾ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • Burger buns
  • Pickles
  • Shredded cheddar
  • Coleslaw

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet or slow cooker, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess grease if necessary.
  2. Add the diced onion and bell pepper to the skillet. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes until softened, then stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Transfer the beef mixture to the slow cooker.
  4. Mix in the ketchup, tomato sauce, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes if desired. Stir until well combined.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours or on high for 2 to 3 hours until thick and flavorful.
  6. Taste the mixture and adjust seasoning as necessary with additional salt, vinegar, or brown sugar. If too loose, cook uncovered on high for an additional 15 to 20 minutes to thicken.
  7. Serve the mixture on toasted buns with your choice of toppings.

Notes

For a healthier option, substitute ground turkey for the beef.
Add extra vegetables like mushrooms or zucchini for more nutrition.
These Sloppy Joes freeze well, making them great for meal prep.
