Ingredients
Scale
- 2–¼ cups flour
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1–¾ sticks butter (softened at room temperature)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 4 large eggs (at room temperature)
- ⅓ cup heavy cream
- 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- powdered sugar or chocolate ganache
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
- In a small bowl, mix the flour, cornstarch, and baking powder and set aside.
- Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add sugar, vanilla extract, and salt, mixing until fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, blending well after each addition.
- Gradually mix in the flour mixture and heavy cream until the batter is smooth.
- Pour ⅔ of the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Combine the remaining batter with cocoa powder, extra sugar, and heavy cream, then spread it over the vanilla layer. Swirl the batters together with a knife or fork for a marbled effect.
- Bake for 55–60 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing it to a wire rack to cool completely. Dust with powdered sugar or top with chocolate ganache before serving.
Notes
For a lighter texture, you may use cake flour instead of all-purpose flour.
To enhance flavor, consider using high-quality cocoa powder.
Ensure eggs are at room temperature for better mixing.
